A lot of people in my last post were acting like they had the World Cup ticket market completely figured out. I had dozens of comments telling me I overpaid, that I should have waited, and that prices were guaranteed to come down. Some people were so confident in their predictions that they spoke as if it was an established fact rather than just their opinion. Now here we are a month later, and tickets have remained relatively stagnant above the $1,000 range. Yes, there was a dip to around $800, and everyone immediately started celebrating as if they had been proven right. But instead of continuing to fall, prices rebounded and climbed right back to around $1,100. The massive collapse that so many people were confidently predicting simply has not happened. What I found funny is that people were treating a temporary dip as proof that they understood exactly where the market was headed. Markets do not move in a straight line. Anyone who has ever followed ticket sales, sporting events, concerts, or really any high demand event (in the UNITED STATES) knows that prices can fluctuate while still maintaining an overall high value. A short term drop does not automatically mean prices are destined to keep falling. My original point was never that ticket prices would only go up every single day. My point was that this is the FIFA World Cup in the United States. Demand is enormous, supply is limited, and the resale market exists to squeeze as much money as possible out of people who want to attend. We see the same thing happen constantly with major sporting events, concerts, collectibles, and practically anything that generates enough hype. The idea that World Cup tickets were somehow immune to that reality never made much sense to me. heck NBA courtside Finals tickets sold for a Million. The world cup isn't just an average ticket people. Its a ticket to an event that happens once in a life time for many of yall , a fact that People in the US will NOT overlook . The funnie
